Laneige Make-Up Workshop Series with Min Hyuk Park (or how to do make-up the Korean way!)

I was invited to participate in Laneige’s Make-Up Workshop Series with Korean make-up artist Min Hyuk Park last October 10, 2011 (my birthday, hehe!) at Laneige’s Shangri-la Plaza Mall boutique.

Laneige Make-Up Workshop with Min Hyuk ParkI’ve always admired the clean and luminous make-up look of Korean celebrities and so I was really excited about this particular workshop.

Laneige Make-Up Workshop Series with Min Hyuk ParkIt was rather straightforward actually. Min Hyuk Park got one of the participants to model and began narrating in Korean.

Laneige Make-Up Workshop Series with Min Hyuk ParkHe got a fair-skinned girl to model. I was hoping he’d get someone a bit darker and more typically Filipina-looking as that would really reveal a lot more technique. XD
Laneige Make-Up Workshop Series with Min Hyun ParkAnyhow Min Hyuk Park began with skin care. He said it’s important to start with thoroughly cleansed skin and so he cleansed her face with a toner. Then he applied moisturizer and sunscreen. He also showed us how to massage products into the face to maximize the effects. He kept stressing on retaining the moisture of the skin… which isn’t surprising because Korean celebs always look so dewy and luminous.

Laneige Make-Up Workshop Series with Min Hyuk ParkMin Hyuk Park had a translator since he couldn’t speak too much English.

Laneige Make-Up Workshop Series with Min Hyun ParkAfter the skin care, he got a balm-type Laneige BB Cream and started applying it all over her face. He said you can apply the BB Cream with your fingers or with a brush.

Laneige Make-Up Workshop Series with Min Hyuk ParkAfter the BB Cream, he patted a brush with a little powder at parts of her face which were starting to shine.

He continued patting away the shine.

Laneige Make-Up Workshop Series with Min Hyuk ParkThen he began working on the eyes. Min Hyuk Park told us that:

  • Koreans like to keep their eyebrows on the thick and straight side, so all you have to do is keep them neat and apply eyebrow pencil or eye shadow that’s a bit darker than your hair color.
  • Koreans like using eye shadows in natural shades. In this case he used shades from Laneige’s Holiday Collection.
  • Use an eyeliner that is close to the eye shadow shades you are using. In this case it’s brown. You line the eyes very very close to the lashline and then turn it up a little towards the end if you prefer. The effect is supposed to be subtle and not too heavy.
  • Curl the lashes and then apply mascara evenly.

Laneige Make-Up Workshop Series with Min Hyuk ParkAfter the eyes are done, sweep some light blush across the apples of the cheeks.

Laneige Make-Up Workshop Series with Min Hyuk ParkMin Hyuk Park then selected a soft pink lipstick that complimented the light, natural, and subtle look he was creating.

Laneige Make-Up Workshop Series with Min Hyuk ParkSee the difference? He did half of her face only so we can see. The make-up is very subtle and it works to highlight the features rather than make one look different. She looks luminous and natural, don’t you agree? 😀

I had the chance to try some Laneige testers that day and all I can say is the products are really good. I’d like to buy some next time after I get my stuff organized. I’ll try to apply what he taught in my next FOTD. I wanted to get the BB Balm Min Hyuk Park used but I still have way too many BB creams on my dresser. I did get a lipstick which I’ll be reviewing in a future post.
Thanks to Laneige Philippines for inviting me. 🙂
