Anyone who follows me on Instagram would know that I’m in a constant battle with clutter. It doesn’t help that I often shop online. Thus when I got wind of Christine Dychiao (she’s a Certified Konmari Expert) and Our Home’s decluttering and storage masterclass, I knew I had to go. It seems no matter what I do I can’t completely declutter.
Tin walked us through the foundation of a clutter-free life — and that’s living with intention. I will admit to being guilty of holding onto things that I may either gift to someone when Christmas comes or I might use myself someday. This way of thinking has led me to throw away so many expired things. If I gave away everything I didn’t want to see here at home I would probably be loading a truck. But that’s the thing, I want to recoup some of the expenses so I end up trying to sell them first.
Tin said one of the rules you need to follow is to tidy up for 3 hours and then stop. You will be tired after 3 hours and decisions made after 3 hours might not be the best. Here are my top takeaways from the masterclass:
- Base it on feeling, not practical use. Ask yourself if it sparks joy. I even jokingly said wow most of my house would be gone, lol.
- Discard, donate, or sell. It’s more wasteful to hoard and let things expire or gather dust.
- Tidy by category, not by area. Let’s say today is makeup day. Get rid of all the makeup you’re not using or will never use.
- Keep what makes you happy. The decision must be based on joy not guilt or fear.
- Find a home for your spark joy items. You can’t leave them lying around so this is where proper storage comes in.
- Always return things to their designated space so you avoid losing things and producing more clutter by misplacing them.
Tin offered tips on how to find the right storage solutions. She also said that stack whatever you can so the space on top of cabinets, shelves, etc can be utilized. Once you’ve cleared out everything you don’t want or need, the next step is to make space for things that you are keeping. Our Home has developed a comprehensive Storage Solution line—a carefully curated collection that represents what really works in Filipino homes. They’re thoughtfully designed systems that solve real organizational challenges while enhancing your home’s aesthetic. I especially liked the full-length mirror which doubled as storage shelves. The Our Home Storage Solution collection features everything from modular closet systems that adapt as your needs change to beautiful wooden drawers that you’ll actually want to display. Each piece is selected for its quality, functionality, and ability to withstand the demands of daily family life.
The beauty of Our Home’s Storage Solution line is its accessibility. With 33 branches across the country, you can experience these organizational tools firsthand, touch the materials, and envision how they’ll work in your specific space. In-store consultation services help you match storage solutions to your exact needs and space constraints. You can also see everything online at https://ourhome.ph/.
I also got a certificate for participating in the decluttering masterclass. Now I’m more determined than ever to declutter and organize our home!
