My uncle celebrated his 60th birthday at Cafe Ysabel along P. Guevara St. some time ago. We all had a four-course set dinner which was pre-ordered for the occasion.
The inner dining area of Cafe Ysabel is lavishly decorated. The tapestries, chandeliers, and painted ceilings all exude a classic ambiance. Smoking isn’t allowed in this section too, so if you want a pleasant and intimate dining experience, this is the place to reserve.
We started off with an appetizer of Caesar’s Salad with Spicy Shrimp. This was after we were served House Bread with Dip. I liked the salad. Crisp lettuce, crunchy croutons, bacon bits, and succulent shrimps were tossed in the most perfect tasting Caesar dressing then topped with parmesan cheese.
Next up was Onion Consomme Gratin, better known as French Onion Soup. The soup is tasty and comforting. The gooey melted mozarella cheese rests on top of a slice of french bread. Yummy!
The main course was Grilled Tenderloin with Wild Mushroom Demi Mashed Potatoes. It was served with Cafe Ysabel’s trademark loopy string of… crunchy noodle?
The steak itself was just okay. It’s thick and a bit dry… I prefer my steak thinner since it’s usually better that way. I loved the vegetables underneath though. I’ve been here enough times to know that this is usually how they serve steak. Normally, I opt for fish when given a choice for the main course at Cafe Ysabel.
For dessert, we had Gino’s Molten Chocolate Cake and Homemade Ice Cream. The cake was very rich and gooey. What I really loved was the homemade butterscotch ice cream served on a crispy caramel shell.
It was a good meal altogether. It’s kind of hard to take good photos at night since the place is very dimly lit. I should mention that I really enjoy their refreshing brewed iced tea every time I visit. Service was pretty good. The servers were attentive and prompt in responding to everyone’s needs.
