I buy, try, and receive a lot of skin care products for review. Unknown to many though, very few “graduate” and move on to my permanent regimen. I have pretty decent skin and I can actually go out of the house without any make-up on. That said, one question I always get asked is what do I do to take care of it? My skin care routine is the result of a lot of experimentation, product testing, and shopping.
At the beginning of this year, I suddenly experienced skin dryness — and my skin has been oily practically all my life. I could no longer use the facial washes that I used to patronize as they now make my skin feel like sandpaper. I was given a bottle of Pevonia Botanica Purilys Phyto Gel Cleanser to review last January. Pevonia Philippines assured me that it’s good for all skin types. I started using it back in February and well, I’m still using it up until now! It leaves my face feeling perfect — neither dry nor oily but very clean. The steep price tag is justified by the fact that it lasts forever. I’ve been using it to wash my face twice a day for the last 5-6 months and the bottle isn’t even halfway done.
So yes, this is a permanent part of my facial care regimen. I wash with this Pevonia Botanica Purilys Phyto Gel Cleanser morning and night. Until I find something that works better, I’m sticking with this one.
I discovered Laneige via my high school friend who is incidentally the brand’s exclusive Philippine distributor. She invited me to their event and I was able to get some sample sachets and tiny bottles of various skin care products to try. What really got me started was the Laneige Water Sleeping Pack EX. It’s sort of like a night cream but the consistency is more like gel. I used one sachet before bedtime last December and I was so amazed with how my skin felt when I woke up the next day. I had an upcoming trip to Korea (figured it’d be cheaper to buy there since Laneige is Korean) in April and I told myself that I would buy the entire line that was right for my skin type.
At the Laneige boutique in Myeongdong, I asked the saleslady what she thought was the best line for my skin. She saw that I was a little bit oily on the T-zone but dry and slightly chapping everywhere else. She told me that at Laneige, basic skin care consists of two products: Refiner (toner) and Emulsion (moisturizer). Everything else is extra. She gave me the Laneige Power Essential Skin Refiner Moisture and Laneige Balancing Emulsion Moisture (there’s Light for oily skin and Sensitive for well, sensitive skin). Moisture is for drier skin. So I bought the boxed set and got free trial sizes of Laneige Water Bank Essence, Laneige Water Bank Moisture Cream, and Laneige Water Sleeping Pack EX. The set cost around 50,000 won (around P2,000). You can get a bottle of refiner + emulsion in Laneige boutiques in the Philippines for a total of P2,900.
I like it so much that it’s the first toner I’ve ever used religiously. I usually skip toner because I hate the fact that most of them sting and leave my face feeling taut. Laneige Power Essential Refiner Moisture smells so nice and feels so soothing that I actually look forward to using it after I wash my face. It actually leaves my skin feeling soft, smooth, and clean.
After the refiner, I pat on some emulsion. It comes in an equally big bottle.
I like the consistency of Laneige Balancing Emulsion Moisture as it’s neither too thick nor too thin. It’s just right. Like the refiner, it smells soooo fresh and nice.
Thus after washing my face, I tone and moisturize with Laneige refiner and emulsion.
If it’s daytime, I follow up with either BB cream with SPF or sunscreen, depending on what my schedule for the day is. For BB cream, I usually use Laneige Snow BB Essence Balm SPF33 PA++ or Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream. My sunscreen varies, but I recently bought a tube of Laneige sunscreen which I will review eventually.
Eye cream is also something I use day and night. I’m overboard when it comes to eye cream. I apply all around the eye area — underneath (for my dark circles), on the sides (for preventing crow’s feet) and on the lids (so I won’t end up with wrinkly lids). At the moment I’m using and loving Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye — a detailed review will be up soon!
This about covers my basic daytime skin care routine… I also have stuff I do once a week and my night time regimen is slightly different from what I do in the day. I’ll post about them in the coming days. 😀
I do believe my skin care regimen contributes a lot to the fact that I don’t look like I’m inching closer and closer to 40 years of age, hahaha!
