The Volkswagen Beetle is BACK!

I met my hubby in high school sometime during the 80s. He drove a 1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle, which was also sort of his project car. He liked tinkering with it. He kept it in pristine condition and I remember riding in it a few times. I learned how to drive when I was in college so I didn’t get a chance to drive it.

Hubby’s Beetle looked something like this (except that his was equipped with mag wheels plus all the bells and whistles). It’s even the same color. I found this photo on Wikipedia.

Last April 2, Volkswagen launched the new Beetle. People across different generations and cultures have been enamored with this cute and compact car since way back. In fact, when it was first built, it didn’t even have a name. It was simply a Volkswagen. It’s amazing how the world seemed to agree on its nickname, Beetle, based on how it looked. Even my 9-year old daughter finds it cute.

Oh yes, The Beetle is back! It’s looking a lot more sportier, sleeker, and more streamlined now but it’s still the same icon that people the world over have known and loved. It’s wider and it’s got a lower profile. It now boasts of more space inside too for a more comfortable ride. I don’t think there’s any other car that has managed to transcend time like the Beetle has.
