I didn’t think my 126th series would be a romance, but it is. I ended up picking up Love Scout because a lot of my Instagram followers said they’re either watching it or have finished watching it and it’s good. When I saw Lee Jun-hyuk was the male lead, I knew I had to watch it too. I first saw him as a supporting character in Are You Human Too. Back then, I already thought he had potential. He was good-looking and he could act well. Are You Human Too is one of the first few dramas I watched so that was quite some time ago. I’m just happy he’s finally in his male lead era thanks to his breakout role in Love Scout.
Lee Jun-hyuk is Yu Eun-ho, a single dad who recently got fired from his job due to office politics. He ends up working as a secretary for CEO Kang Ji-yun, played by Han Ji-min. Ji-yun is a relentless workaholic who’s out to get the job done even if it’s at the cost of her health. She initially does not want him as her secretary due to a misunderstanding they had earlier on. He is however determined to prove that he can be the best secretary ever. As you can guess, their awkward relationship gradually develops into something else.
Eun-ho and Ji-yun are the freaking best romantic leads I have ever encountered. Both characters are mature and there are no pretenses in their relationship. They don’t sulk or hide stuff, both are very straightforward about how they feel. If any relationship problem arises, they face it head on. No pretending, assuming, or bickering. If anything is bothering them, they just tell or ask the other person about it straight out. As a result, there are zero misunderstandings and their relationship is always crystal clear — built on mutual respect, trust, and support. It’s so solid that petty shit I’ve seen other K-Drama couples break up over never even become an issue with these two. This is the kind of relationship we should all aspire to have.
Love Scout is only 12 episodes long but things develop at a good pace. There are no fillers. Things just build up so naturally and there’s nothing over the top. I just love this series so much. I can’t recommend it enough if you want a romance that’s grounded and mature. All the characters are very likeable, even the supporting ones and the kids.
Lee Jun-hyuk finally gets his well-deserved break.
