Well technically, the Canadian furniture brand Gus* has been in the country for a few months now since it debuted in Greenbelt last December 2010. Anyhow, I was invited to an intimate Gus* media event held last March 8, 2012. Being a home owner, of course I was interested in what they had to offer.
The event was hosted by cute and bubbly fellow blogger Hannah Villasis, who may be better known to netizens as Flaircandy. After some coffee and snacks at UCC along Connecticut St., we proceeded to the Gus* showroom beside it.
I find Gus* furniture to be very American in terms of look and build quality. Pieces are simple and sturdy, combining function and design.
I like how this Stump Storage Box from Gus* can also be used as a decorative side table.
The 3-piece Prairie Nest Table is impressive too. It’s ingenious how it can function as a single living room centerpiece or as three separate accent tables.
Just to give you an idea, a dining table like this one costs around P70,000. The finish is very smooth and nice. I’d love to have something like this in our house!
Another piece that caught my eye was the Gus* Modern Cube. It’s a light box, table, and chair all rolled into one. It’s made of high quality plastic that doesn’t get hot even when the light bulb inside it is on for a long time. You can sit on it comfortably, use it as a table, or simply as a light box to liven up and illuminate your room.
Gus* furniture are made of wood from sustainable tree farms so you can be assured that supporting the brand doesn’t make you an accessory to unsavory activities like deforestation and illegal logging. Gus* is also dedicated to delivering only the highest quality products — their chairs are even guaranteed to withstand thousands of rubs (rub as in the friction caused when you sit on one).
Here’s a bit of trivia: The Philippines is the first country outside of North America (US and Canada) to have a Gus* Design Pod. 😀
