Ottogi Hotcake Mix

Ottogi Hotcake Mix Review

So far, the best pancake mix I’ve ever tried is Rustic Mornings Original Buttermilk Pancake Mix. It’s SOOO good. I wish it were readily available on Shopee or whatever online shopping site. I don’t really like ordering via cellphone or email and then queueing up at the bank. At least with online stores, I can pay via credit card or even COD. Anyhow, in my search for good pancake mixes (FYI I hate almost everything in the local supermarket), I chanced upon Ottogi Hotcake Mix on Shopee.

Ottogi Hotcake MixOne pack of Ottogi Hotcake Mix contains 500g. I bought it from a Shopee seller for P125 per pack. This makes about 6 big pancakes. Ottogi is a Korean food brand which makes everything from curry to  instant noodles to condiments like ketchup and mayo.

Since the instructions were all in Korean, I had to Google… a lot. I went through several sites before I finally found out how to make it:

  1. Combine 2 eggs and 270ml of either milk or water. I use low fat milk which is sort of in the middle of milk and water lol.
  2. Put 500g of hotcake mix (1 pack) into a bowl. Pour in the egg mixture and whisk together well.
  3. Heat and oil a pan over low heat. Pour batter in pan to form a round shape. Cook for 3-4 minutes. Flip when you see bubbles form. Cook for around 2-3 minutes more.

Ottogi Hotcake MixSo this is my batter after following the above instructions.

Ottogi Hotcake MixAfter the pancakes were cooked, I put butter on top and drizzled Rustic Mornings Classic Pancake Syrup all over them. There is a matching Ottogi Hotcake Syrup but I haven’t been able to find any. FYI Rustic Mornings Classic Pancake Syrup is the BEST I’ve tried — better than Clara Ole, Aunt Jemima, Karo Syrup (which I cannot find anymore but this was “in” when I was a kid), American Maid, and even Log Cabin.

Ottogi Hotcake MixOttogi Hotcake Mix is my official first runner up where pancake mixes are concerned. The pancakes are fluffy and chewy, with a slight vanilla flavor. They smell so good too — super nice with butter and syrup! Rustic Mornings is still the best but I’d gladly have this if the former is not available. It’s definitely better than all the other local pancake mixes.

Ottogi Hotcake Mix is not available in supermarkets but I was able to buy from a seller on Shopee. I actually ordered a few more packs because we really liked it.
