My daughter and I enrolled in a Korean Makeup Class by ROA Makeup Seoul last May 2025. I first saw this on Klook, but ended up contacting ROA on Whatsapp because I wanted a 2:1 class and this was not an option on Klook. Roa was very responsive and told me she can accommodate a 2:1 class for ₩330,000 (US$236 / ₱13,000+). Considering the Klook fee for a 1:1 Korean Makeup Class is around US$200 per person, this was an extremely good deal. I was asked to pay ₩50,000 down payment via Paypal to secure our slot. Remaining balance was to be paid upfront after the class. Roa explained that the fee for direct booking is lower because there is no platform fee.
Roa Makeup Studio is located in Hongdae, walking distance from our hotel Mercure Ambassador Seoul Hongdae. It’s small but well-lighted and fully equipped with everything needed to do hair and makeup or conduct a 1:1 or 2:1 class. There was no aircon, well at least not that I can see. Luckily it was still cool in May. I don’t know how they can work in the summer months when it’s so hot.
Roa asked us what kind of Korean makeup we wanted to learn and we said natural everyday makeup. I figured it’s best to start with the basics. She let me mount my cellphone on a tripod in her studio so I can record the entire session.
She took photos of us before the session and wrote notes on the photo afterwards. We got to keep a copy of the photo with the notes. The way Roa teaches is she will do half your face while you do the other half. I was surprised that we started with the eyes — not even the eyebrows, but the eyes. We also spent a great deal of time with skin prep. She rightfully gauged my skin as having a high temperature so my face is usually red. She put cooling toner pads all over my face and let them stay for a good 30 minutes while we did eye makeup. Roa would also show us what product she was using and let us to take photos so we can remember. Roa has a good command of English so we understood each other well.
The Korean base technique left us quite speechless. Our skin looked flawless, bright, and dewy but not overly so. We looked like we had perfect skin! The makeup truly was natural. It looked barely there but it actually took quite some time prep and to apply. I also learned how to tightline.
My daughter and I are so happy with the results and the learnings from Roa Makeup. We plan to enroll in another class when we go back to Seoul this autumn. By then, we’ll request for K-pop idol makeup from the other artist, Seunghyun. We believe there’s a lot more to learn.
Our class lasted about 2 hours. The studio is easy to find, we just followed the Naver Map link Roa sent us. Roa told us to take care of our skin (my daughter was having a breakout) or else we cannot make pretty, lol.
You can book via Klook (free cancellation with 24 hours notice) or if you’re 100% sure book directly with Roa via Whatsapp +82-10-2636-5217.
