I remember coming across a really idiotic meme on Facebook last September about posting weeks and cravings on your status update, making it seem as if you’re pregnant. So your status reads something like this “I’m 2 weeks and craving chocolate mints!”. Ugh. This is allegedly supposed to increase breast cancer awareness. Don’t ask me how because honestly I don’t get it. Teen girls who posted it probably gave their elders a heart attack.
Anyhow… October is breast cancer awareness month. Oh I’m very much aware about this dreaded disease. I have a second cousin, an aunt, and a long-time helper who survived it after all. Early detection almost ensures survival. But that doesn’t make it any less scary. I got wind of Estee Lauder’s Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign via e-mail. Now this I understand.
So how does this work? First, head on over to http://www.facebook.com/BCACampaign. You will have to like the page to be able to participate in the campaign. Click the Shine a Light on Breast Cancer tab on the left panel. You’ll be taken to the app so you can share a message of hope to the world. After typing in your message, send it and you would have made your corner of the world a bit more pink.
Everyone who uses the app will be able to read messages of hope from all over the world. With my message, I’ve made the Philippines glow a bit more pink!
Every October, The Estée Lauder Companies illuminates more than 200 iconic landmarks in pink around the world. These landmarks serve as universal symbols of hope, empowerment and unity about the importance of breast health and early detection. Here in the Philippines, the chosen landmark is 32nd Street corner 5th Ave. at Fort Bonifacio Global City. It’s where you can find Transformation by Architect Lor Calma. It’ll be lit up in pink lights until the third week of October. You can take a peek when you drop by Bonifacio High Street. 🙂
For more information, you can also log on to http://www.bcacampaign.com/ph/index.shtml. Local FB pages of beauty brands under Estee Lauder (Estee Lauder Philippines, Bobbi Brown Philippines, Clinique Philippines, DKNY Philippines) will all have a link to the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign as well.
Turn the Philippines pink for breast cancer awareness! There is no contest, there is no prize, all that awaits is the chance to make more people aware that breast cancer can be countered by early detection and intervention.
