When you say hopia, it somehow brings up images of Chinatown, the mid-autumn festival (dice game/mooncake season to us Chinese), and well… sweet and flaky bean-filled cakes that’s unmistakably Filipino-Chinese in origin. Somehow Christmas and hopia aren’t two words you usually utter in the same sentence. The word pia is actually the Hokkien word for cake. I don’t know what ho stands for, lol.
Oh but take a look at Polland Hopia’s Christmas Set. It just might change your mind about Christmas and hopia.
This impressive red and gold box houses ten (10) colorful mini boxes of hopia in different flavors: Ube (Purple Yam), Baboy (Pork), Mongo Special (Yellow Mung Bean), Black Mongo (Red Mung Bean), Dice Mongo (Yellow Mung Bean), Ube Queso (Purple Yam and Cheese), Kundol (Wintermelon), Hapon (Red Mung Bean), Pinya (Pineapple), and Langka (Jackfruit). Each box costs P450, so it’s a nice gift option for the holidays.
If you want smaller gifts to give away, Polland Hopia has Hopia Promo Packs containing four (4) boxes — Mongo Special, Baboy, Black Mongo, and Ube that retail for only P130.
Each mini box houses either 4 pieces of round-shaped hopia or 6 pieces of cube-shaped hopia. 50 years of hopia-making expertise go into each yummy piece.
This is the Ube Queso variant — yes it’s got purple yam and cheese in the middle! I like that it’s not overly sweet.
My daughter and I like the Hopia Dice Mongo the most. We finished this in one sitting. I had 2 pieces while she had 4, lol.
