Hi everybody! It’s with much excitement that I introduce to you my new phone, the Xiaomi Mi3. There was a flash sale at Lazada last June 26 at 12nn wherein 3,000 units of Xiaomi Mi3 cellphones were sold for only P10,599. It was a discounted introductory rate, as far as I know the SRP was supposed to be P12k. The 3,000 units were all gone in less than 2 hours. Yes, I bought this phone — #notsponsored. Hubby and I purchased one each.
I finally got my Mi3 and it came with an autographed congratulatory card from Xiaomi co-founder and president Bin Lin and Hugo Barra, the former VP and product spokesman of Google’s Android division. Hugo Barra is now the VP of International for Xiaomi.
Check out my new toy’s wicked cool specs: Qualcomm Snapdragon Quad-Core 2.3GHz processor, 2GB RAM, 5″ Retina Display (1920 x 1080 Full HD), 13MP BSI Camera (Backside Illumination, like iPhone’s cam), 3050 mAH lithium-ion battery, 16GB internal storage… all that and more for P10,599!!! How could I not buy it, lol.
So anyway let’s unbox it. This reminds me just a wee bit of the time when I was unboxing my Apple iPad 3, hahaha!
This is it — phone (the battery is already inside… like the iPhone, you cannot replace the battery), charger, USB cable, and quickstart guide.
I got it in Metallic Grey. There are supposedly more colors, but hey, I want it now so whatever’s available will do. I can’t get over how sleek and lightweight it is. It’s the LIGHTEST smartphone I’ve ever owned, I think.
It may be a China phone but it’s got a very premium look and feel. I’ve never felt it with the other cheap phones I’ve handled which were all quite rough around the edges literally and figuratively. The lightness is due to the magnesium alloy frame.
Everything is so perfect… every part is laser-cut to precision so there are no loose sides, no telltale gaps between the case and the screen… you really have to hold one and see for yourself to experience the perfection in terms of structure and symmetry.
This is how the Mi3 measures up in terms of size next to our Samsung phones — from left to right: Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3, Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Xiaomi Mi3. Yes, the Mi3 is the most lightweight.

Were you or are you planning to buy a Xiaomi Mi3? The good news is… you actually can this Friday, July 4. Another 2,000 units are going on sale! I suggest liking Mi Philippines on Facebook to keep yourself updated because the time of sale has yet to be decided. That’s just 4 days away!
As for me, I can’t use it just yet because I currently have a microsim and the Mi3 uses the regular-sized sim from yesteryear so I have to go to my telco provider to get another sim. Maybe you guys know where I can get a sim adapter? Thanks in advance! I will post a review once I’ve used it enough. 😀
