I was invited to the launch of Cupcakes by Sonja’s new store in Glorietta 2 last April 24, 2013. Yup, you read right… a full seven years after starting the cupcake revolution in Serendra (yes, Sonja is the original purveyor of big delicious and uniquely flavored cupcakes here in Manila… everyone else just followed, lol!), Cupcakes by Sonja finally opens a second store.
There were a lot of people at the launch so I couldn’t take photos of the counter properly. I borrowed the first two photos in this post from their Facebook Page.
There are a lot of tables and chairs where you can stay because aside from yummy cupcakes, Cupcakes by Sonja now serves equally delightful coffee. I had a hot cup of cappuccino while I was there and wow, it was very good.
You can actually order custom cupcake creations for special occasions.
Another variant that’s new to me is Banana Custard. It’s filled with creamy banana custard inside.
Anyhow guests were treated to a cupcake buffet. Thank goodness they served bite-sized cupcakes so we could try more flavors.
There were Red Velvet Cakepops too. My son said it’s the best cakepop he has ever tasted.
I picked 5 variants to try — Banana Monkey Cream Pie, Elvis, Pistachio Berries and Cream (new), Red Velvet Vixen, and Berry Delight Strawberry Cheesecake. I only went around the buffet area once. Talk about self-control, lol!
Sonja herself joined us for a bit and I immediately asked her why it took her so long to open a second store. She said Cupcakes by Sonja is her baby and she couldn’t bear the thought of not being able to take care of it properly. She has since found partners who she believes would be able to help her and so she decided it was time to expand. Her next store is opening at the new Shangrila Mall East Wing.
