I’ve actually heard of Crystal Jade’s Dimsum Buffet and both hubby and I have been planning to try it. Most of you probably know how much we love buffets by now, lol! We can’t get enough of their delicious Xiao Long Bao so it’s perfect.
So anyway, surprise surprise, I was actually invited to try it one weekday! Greenhills is a stone’s throw away from where I work and so I said yes. Anyhow from tomorrow until Sept. 30, 2014 you can enjoy Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight’s Weekday Dinner Dimsum Buffet PLUS. Confused? Don’t be. It’s like this:
- Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight Weekday Dinner Dimsum Buffet = P488+ per person / P288+ per child 6-12 years of age. At this rate, you get to enjoy 15 kinds of dimsum in unlimited amounts (and that includes Xiao Long Bao!).
- Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight Weekday Dinner Dimsum Buffet PLUS = P588+ per person / P388+ per child 6-12 years of age. At this rate you get to enjoy 15 kinds of dimsum in unlimited amounts PLUS unlimited fried rice (choose between Yang Chow Fried Rice or Fried Rice with Chicken & Ham) and one serving of a Chef’s Recommendation dish.
So now you get two Weekday Dinner Dimsum Buffet options. Anyway, let’s check out what dimsum choices are available.
#1 Cold Cucumber with Minced Garlic in Sesame Oil
Cold cucumber isn’t really new to me, but it’s usually served pickled in vinegar (atchara style). This one is very garlicky and I LOVE garlic so yum!
#2 Congee with Salted Pork & Preserved Egg
#3 Noodle with Spring Onion Oil
OMG. I loved this dish. The noodles are so chewy and tasty even on their own without soup! Really a must-try.
#4 Pork Dumpling with Hot Chili Sauce
Steamed pork dumplings are drizzled with chili sauce, I liked that the dumplings are meaty but the chili sauce lacked ooomph.
#5 Deep-fried Spring Roll
Do you like Lumpiang Shanghai? If the answer is yes, you’ll love this! Nicely done.
#6 Steamed Pork & Shrimp Dumpling with Crab Roe “Siew Mai”
Siomai! No dimsum buffet is complete without this staple. Crystal Jade’s is very good — meaty and no telltale fillers.
#7 Steamed Spare Ribs with Black Beans Sauce
This is one of my hubby’s faves but it’s not my cup of tea so I gave it a miss. If only I had unlimited stomach space, lol!
#8 Steamed Soupy Pork Dumpling “Xiao Long Bao”
This is my ABSOLUTE favorite. I had 5 pieces all to myself, hahaha! I love how nice and chewy the dumpling wrapper is and both the broth and the meat filling are so flavorful. You can feed me with just this and I’d be perfectly happy. Even with the introduction of colorful flavored Xiao Long Bao, this for me is the best.
#9 Steamed Vegetable Dumpling
This is filled purely with greens. Tasted like greens. Smelled like greens. I don’t mind. Best when dipped in sauce. 🙂
#10 “Beijing” Pork Dumpling / #11 Minced Pork Dumpling with String Bean
Okay so these two dimsum look exactly alike so I don’t know which is which in the photo above. I do remember eating the one with string bean and it was a pretty rad experience.
#12 Pan-fried Shanghai Pork Bun
Think mini pork bola-bola siopao with toasted bottoms. Nice but heavy, I could only manage one piece.
#13 Flour Roll (Steamed / Deep Fried)
This is actually mantou (you know, the soft chewy white bread you usually find in Chinese restaurants) and we opted to have them steamed. They’re served with condensed milk for dipping. I like!
#14 Steamed Chicken Feet with Black Beans Sauce
Sorry, chicken feet is something I never learned to eat or appreciate in any way so I gave this dish a miss. I would not eat chicken feet if you paid me to.
#15 Pan-fried Carrot Cake with Dried Shrimp & Preserved Meat
Here in the Philippines, this is more known as radish cake. Nothing special for me but okay in general.
Okay, so the 15 kinds of dimsum I enumerated above are all available in unlimited quantities at the Crystal Jade Weekday Dinner Dimsum Buffet for P488+. As I’ve mentioned though, you can add P100 more (price becomes P588+) and enjoy bottomless fried rice and one chef’s recommendation dish. There are 8 such dishes to choose from:
Sauteed Squid with Broccoli
Chicken with Pumpkin in Black Beans Sauce
Pan-fried Sliced Beef with Scallions
Braised Beancurd with Crab Meat
Deep Fried Chicken with Dried Chili and Peanuts
Sauteed Diced String Beans with Minced Pork served with Pancake
Really, by this time I felt like I was going into a food coma. I failed to take photos of 2 chef’s recommendation dishes: Braised Homestyle Beancurd with Mushroom and Sauteed Shrimp Kung Pao Style (my favorite!). Everything was good but I felt so stuffed already that I was able to try maybe 3-4 dishes out of the 8.
Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight also unveiled their upcoming dessert. There’s no official name for it yet but it’s like taro-filled puff similar to an empanada. I liked that it wasn’t overly sweet.
Thank you Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight for inviting us over! I met fellow bloggers Louisa, Jam, and Edel too.
