Chili Crab Xiao Long Bao and more at Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight!

Last August 18, I was invited over to Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight in Greenhills for some food-tasting. It’s Singapore’s 50th Anniversary and Crystal Jade, having originated from Singapore, had come up with a few new dishes to commemorate this milestone.

Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight

Whatever day it is (it was a weekday when I went), whether lunch or dinner, Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight is always teeming with diners.

Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight
Dried Shrimp & Peanut in Spicy Sauce (P198 for a Snack Portion)

We started off with a snack-sized serving of Dried Shrimp & Peanut in Spicy Sauce. I love how chewy and perfectly al dente the noodles are. I didn’t find it that spicy. The extra crunch that the peanuts and toasted black sesame brought to the dish is just perfect. It’s pretty heavy and I was warned there was a lot more food coming so I didn’t finish it.

Fried Rice in Yang Chow Style (P288)

We were served some good old-fashioned Yang Chow Fried Rice — a sure crowd-pleaser!

Sauteed Squid with Salted Egg Yolk (P388)

Wow! The Sauteed Squid with Salted Egg Yolk trumps the usual Calamari any day — crispy like Onion Rings and then covered with a paste made from really tasty salted egg yolks. Yummy! I would definitely order this again.

Avocado Milkshake with Sago (P125)
I had a deliciously creamy Avocado Milkshake to wash it all down.

Sauteed Bean Curd with Seafood in Hot Stone Pot (P458)

This is the kind of dish my hubby likes, but I don’t find it particularly exciting. It’s good, yes, but I’m just not very fond of seafood and tofu stewed together in a pot lol.

Sauteed Sliced Beef with Broccoli (P358)

This is Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight’s take on the classic Chinese dish Beef with Broccoli.

Chili Crab Xiao Long Bao and Hainanese Chicken Xiao Long Bao (P200)

Anyway these special limited edition Xiao Long Baos are the real stars of the SG50 celebration. You can order a set of 4 for P200 until the end of September! The orange-colored Xiao Long Bao is Chili Crab Xiao Long Bao and WOW, I don’t know how they do it but they successfully compress all the goodness and flavor of actual Chili Crabs into one small soup dumpling. It’s so awesome it’s definitely a must try. The white one is Hainanese Chicken Xiao Long Bao. It’s very comforting and it feels very much like drinking hot soup on a rainy day. Ginger is the dominant flavor in the Hainanese Chicken Xiao Long Bao. Which did I like better? Both are delicious but my vote goes to the Chili Crab variant, hands down! 😀

Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight
Glutinous Rice Dumpling with Taro (P120)

For dessert, I opted for my favorite Glutinous Rice Dumpling with Taro. This is what I always order. It’s served cold, so it’s kind of refreshing. I love the combination of the sticky spherical cake and the creamy taro filling in the center that’s not overly sweet. Yum!

Do try to catch the limited edition Chili Crab Xiao Long Bao and Hainanese Chicken Xiao Long Bao before the end of September! Those two alone are worth the trip. 😀
